We are often confronted with a situation that strikes us as more or less problematic. At such times, it is essential to focus our attention, become aware of what is at stake, analyze the situation from all angles, and consider the possible consequences of any decision we might make. This analysis requires discernment, careful consideration, and an appeal to values that can serve as fundamental guidelines in this deliberation and in the search for a just and appropriate course of action.
Concrete action is the very moment of resolving the ethical issue, but it presupposes the development of criteria that justify the choice made. And what are the criteria for judging the justice, appropriateness, and correctness of our actions?

About the author:
Maria da Conceição Moita is an early childhood educator and member No. 72 of the Association of Early Childhood Education Professionals. She has had a very diverse professional career in the fields of education, educational management and administration, early childhood education training, and work with youth and at-risk populations. She was an adjunct professor at the Lisbon School of Education, where, over the past 20 years, she held positions in the Department of Early Childhood Education and the Division of Sociology of Education.
